Medical Statistics: Clinical Trials

The objective of this book is to provide an introduction to some of the statistical methods and statistical issues that arise in medical experiments which involve, in particular, human patients. Such
experiments are known collectively as clinical trials. Many of the statistical techniques used in analyzing data from such experiments are widely used in many other areas (e.g.contingency tables, t-tests, analysis of variance). Others which arise particularly in medical data and which are mentioned in this course are McNemar’s test, the Mantel-Haenszel test, logistic regression and the analysis of crossover trails. As well as techniques of statistical analysis, the course considers some other issues which arise in medical statistics — questions of ethics and of the design of clinical trials.
